This light and airy space is a one of the many homes of a couple. One of which is influenced by traditional country design, while the other likes a modern, laid back vibe. Joining two small 1-Bedroom units together, we planned a layout with just the essential furniture and conceptualized built-ins with clean lines to maximize the space and to incorporate the modern feel. The couple sometimes have friends sleep over so a hidden modular folding bed was built below the TV.

The couple are in their late 20s to early 30s, to make their space a bit hip we created an entryway with a mix of elements like the barn door and sophisticated copper lamps, and a kitchen with glossy subway tiles and cabinets with golden hardware to make their space more interesting.

To mix the couples’ styles together, we’ve decided on a neutral palette of off white, white, and wood. Integrating finishes of wood for the flooring and the built-ins, installing wooden barn doors entering the bathroom and the laundry area, and putting touches of basket weaves for the accents such as the rugs, the place mats, and the focal piece, which is the mirror, in the dining area. We also did a faux rustic brick texture finish on the walls of the dining and the bedroom, and moulding-paneled walls for the living area which then are painted with white for a mix of a modernized country feel. Topping it off with tufted furniture to soften up the space.

Creating a garden vignette in the balcony of a condominium is a must in having a luxury of space in such a small area. A hanging lounge chair set in a backdrop of a vertical garden is a perfect spot for getting some sun in a condo setting. Inspired by the blue colored accents of the building and the greenery outside the balcony, we brought in accents of lighter shades of blue and green to add some color and to liven up the space.
